napco ma1016e local communication

You need to know the programming code. I believe that panel also requires a downloading ID. Is your system monitored?

Old MA series panel do not do direct connects like the newer Napco panels, so you can't use a mini. You need to have a PCI2000 with the PCl 2000 cable. I beleive they are available here

Also, I do not believe it is supported by Quickloader. You will probably need to use PC Preset.

My panel is not monitored. I really should not be wasting my time and energy on this panel. Its more of a personal thing, a challenge if you will. I got the panel, lcd keypads brand new for next to nothing. The system works great I just hate using the keypad to program it. I think the main reason I'm wasting my time is that I want to use the quick loader software.

The version I have is 5.4.3 . I only have one phone line , so I never tried remote download. Thanks I'll dig up my book a give it a try.

Not all modems will work. Most modern modems will not.

Oops. I didn't realize Quick Loader supported some of those ancient panels directly.

Some of the older Hayes Smartmodems work. Instead of a PCD-2000, connect a regular desk phone to the extra port on the modem. Disconnect the curly cord from the handset but leave it on the hook. When the connection is made take the phone off the hook. That will give the same effect as you'd get with the PCD-2000.

I think he was looking for a local computer hook up to his panel. He only has a single phone line. Even though the PCI2000 acts to keep the connection to the panel on line, and can be spoofed by keeping a PSTN extension off hook, I don't see how it would work locally with just a single phone line (without the PCI2000 with PCL2000). I am sure you could Mickey Mouse around with the phone line and get a function 6 to work, but that's a little silly. Perhaps he could go to the neighbors house and call his panel? If you have another trick up your sleeve perhaps you could share it?

It's free if he has access to one of the old modems. The price Napco charges for their new modem isn't too bad if you do this all the time but for a one-shot use it's not worth the money.
