Adding redundant Sup720 to 6509 open original image

Group, am the proud owner of a second Sup720 for our 6509. We bought it used and re-licensed it. I popped it in the spare chasis and it doesn't have an IOS on it. Gets as far as rommon /SP. Dir bootflash: shows nothing.



Is there a procedure on how I add this as a redundant module to our live 6509? My concerns are that the empty SUP720 will fall over to the good one, wiping out the config & IOS.



I'm having a horrible time with Cisco's site. I found a page that I think details the procedure, it tells me to login, I login, it takes me to the main page and the cycle repeats.



Any help on the procedure would be great.

What IOS version is running on your 6509 ( native mode I assume ?)

Yes, Native mode and IOS version 12.2(17d)SXB11.

Do you have some spare CF cards - if not I would recommend you acquire one for each SUP.

Format a CF on the running SUP720. Copy the running IOS image to the CF and use it to boot the new SUP720 on your spare chassis

One of the longer term things you should evaluate is moving up to a release that will support NSF:
