strange cisco 7604 password recovery problem

Hi! We have in our lab a cisco 7604 and I can´t remember it´s enable password.

I tried standard password recovery procedure (reboot, confreg 0x2142 reset) but for some reason this box allways loads configuration (it canges configuration register to 0x2102 automagically)

Any help is greatly appreciatted

Here is copy.paste from my termina session: R7604_1>

Instead of doing a "reset" after changing the configuration register, try doing a "boot". I think the problem is that you are changing the configuration register and it's not saved, so when you do a reset it gets changed back to the original value.
