Bzzzzzt!
Buying on line does not require any of the abilitys and such listed in the statute. Otherwise any online purchase of wire, screws, tape or any other component that might be used in an alarm system would require a contractors license. Try reading the statute below.
That is more of your fanticy thinking and nothing to do with what I have posted. If you do what you have stated you would be engaging in an implied contract for compensation and need a license. Are you and your thinking typical of those "in the business"? Now I know why DIY is the way to go.

489.505 Definitions.--As used in this part:2) "Alarm system contractor" means a person whose business includes the execution of contracts requiring the ability, experience, science, knowledge, and skill to lay out, fabricate, install, maintain, alter, repair, monitor, inspect, replace, or service alarm systems for compensation, including, but not limited to, all types of alarm systems for all purposes. This term also means any person, firm, or corporation that engages in the business of alarm contracting under an expressed or implied contract; that undertakes, offers to undertake, purports to have the capacity to undertake, or submits a bid to engage in the business of alarm contracting; or that by itself or by or through others engages in the business of alarm contracting.

no we're talking about a system. tape can be used to shut up your wife. wire can be use d to tie her up. screws, well I don't know what you would do with them.
key word is 'or'. if someone is doing 'any' of the above while selling the 'system'
As best as I remember an "alarm station" inside of Florida where alarms are received and handled requires licensing, and alarm stations outside of Florida are specifically exempted from Florida's jurisdiction concerning Florida alarm station licensing. Also as best as I remember (may be worth verifying) acting solely as a broker for alarm services is also exempt from alarm related licensing in Florida. A lot of alarm brokers are licensed for one reason or another (looks good in a yellow pages ad), but I don't think it is a requirement.
Maybe they were quadrupling the price, who knows. Bottom line is that when the lower equipment prices were posted on the net, a lot of alarm installers started squealing like stuck pigs.
Boy! I could not have said it better! Florida, NY, CT take your pick. Most so called "authority types" are the biggest bags of horse s*it in the industry!
Your comments about this matter, incorrect interpretation and faulty conclusion, is, in fact, one reason why, quoting dealer costs of parts would upset someone who owns an installation company. But it's especially the malicious, and antagonistic manner that DMB does it and for the self-serving reasons.
Dealer pricing is pretty much available to anyone interested enough to search ..... or reason it out.
It's the "malicious" , "antagonistic" and "self-serving" part that gets stuck in the craw.
I can't speak to what you claim has been said before as you have proven to be prone to fanticy thinking and lack of accuracry. The "downloading" over the phone does sound like a serious infraction. Care to elaborate?
Got you on that one! ;)
You could use the screws to attach pieces of coral to your children's skulls so they would look like small reindeer and make your holiday more cheerful.
No where does it state that "selling the system" is included in the definition of an alarm system contractor. If it was included, you would need a license to sell the alarm gizmos that sound off when windows or doors are opened and such. Below are alarm systems that are apparently openly sold through out Florida without alarm contractor licensing. I expect you to get the law on these guys right away!
No, I'm typing; not running my mouth, idiot. If you want to use that illustration though I'd say you're the loudest mouth.
F*ck off..
You are wrong. Monitoring stations that provide service to residents of Florida (and dispatch Florida based emergency services) require the same licensing as a facility that operates within Florida and their personnel require licensing as well.
You're wrong again. An individual that contracts for monitoring services in Florida (executes agreements and receives compensation for providing those services) falls within the jurisdiction of the Florida Statute. It doesn't matter if one of the parties to the contract may be "out of state". In essence Robert was deemed a "contractor" in all respects and aspects of the Law and was required to be licensed. I have no doubt that he could pass the written examination and meet all the requirements to get a license. He's just not interested in following that through. Some here have "speculated" as to the reason(s) why, but I won't go there. It's not for me to say one way or the other, besides which Robert will only interpret that as another personal attack and the "flame-fest" will continue. I much prefer Tom's method and support many of the things he's stated. I really wanna see how this all plays out over the next few days/weeks. Who knows... Maybe 2007 will be a "banner" year...
Really?? I never heard a single "oink".
Awwww poor Jeffy is a sad sad little boy during the holidays isn't he? It must have been depressing knowing the people around you only included you in their plans out of obligation. Did you have an outburst yet? Did you soak a pillow in tears yet? Poor Jeffy with nobody to share his bipolar life with. Awwwwwww don't cry little Jeffy the folks at the package store still luvya. Just take your itty bitty little pills and you'll find that courage to leave the house today. And just in case you're not 100% sure that you're bipolar, I've posted the symptoms for you. Look them over and tell us which ones don't apply to you.
Symptoms of depression may include: Feeling sad or blue, or "down in the dumps" Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, including sex Feeling worthless, hopeless, or guilty Sleeping too little or too much Changes in weight or appetite Feeling tired or having little or no energy Feeling restless Problems concentrating or making decisions Thoughts of death or suicide
Here are some behaviors that may be seen in people with bipolar disorder. Please note some of these behaviors may also indicate a different problem, so proper diagnosis is important. Agitation Alcohol or drug abuse Irritability Excessive gambling Violence Poor judgment with decisions Careless spending, buying sprees Talking about hurting oneself Risky sex or change in sexual activity Impulsive financial investments More arguments Change in energy level, appetite, or sleep pattern Relationship problems at home or work Mounting debt Legal/criminal issues

Alarm Central. They're very nice folks.
That's not right, Tom. Because none of the protected premises were located in Florida and the monitoring was performed by a firm outside of Florida, the agent said no license is required in Florida.
Even residing in Florida no license was required. If it had been I'd have taken the exam and gotten the license. It's really a simple test in Florida. They don't require anywhere near the depth of knowledge we had to have in CT. That might explain some of the "professional" dealers we've gotten to know from other parts of the state.
I did that as a courtesy to a friend.
You didn't actually fall for that, did you. It's a classic worthyism -- pure fiction.
He is deliberately ignoring a critical part of the Florida statute as regards monitoring. The definition limits the law's coverage to structures located in Florida. They don't give a mugford's olson about buildings in other states being monitored by out-of-state central stations.
Funny how they never cited me for anything.
Piece of cake.
Since I don't perform installations and I don't monitor premises located in Florida, there's no reason to get a license. Heck, I've done so many plumbing repairs that I could probably pass the plumber's exam with a little preparation, too. But I don't do plumbing for a living so why get the license?
More like expectrated.
Correct. The State of Florida already ruled in my favor on the issue. End of story (though there's no end to the lies from Mugford, Worthy and Olson).
Another easy thing to do.. until I recover. After that he'll need a bit more than a Louisville Slugger. :^)
I'm not going anywhere any time soon.
I posted low prices. I also posted what alarm dealers pay for third party monitoirng services (between $2 and $7 per month, depending on provider and the numb er of accounts). One of the early IB actually posted that I needed to "get with the program" and raise my prices. :^)
Olson threw a pretend fit when I posted abo0ut monitoring costs. If was his excuse to jump ship and join the IB flame fest. He thought it would win him respect (it didn't) from the other idiots.
I don't care much about proprietary panels since I usually just replace them. I don't unlock panels either. If a customer wants that I send them to Bob Campbell or Jim Rojas. It's not worth my time and trouble to get set up and learn tjhe procedures for that. As to downloading software, if the customer owns the system outright I figure it's his right to be able to reprogram it himself. If he bush's it up, it's his responsibility.
Same here. On the rare occasion that it happened, I used to offer to reprogram the system to the competitor's receiver just to make sure that *all* of my receiver numbers (we always used both a primary and a backup receiver) are removed.
Heh, heh, heh... :^)

The point is that the man is an inveterate liar. You made up a few lies but it was a joke and you later admitted it. He hang onto every lie (hundreds of them) like his life depended on it. There's a name for that illness.
Skiing, most likely. He has no idea how to sell an alarm system.
Houston is easy. You don't have to bait him. Just disagree with any single thing he blurts out. He's nowhere near as knowledgeable as he pretends to be. Considering his best and only favorite hardware is X10, he'd be pretty useless in ASA.
OK, send Olson down and I'll ship him up to you along with his clerk license. :^)

Proprietary - : one that possesses, owns, or holds exclusive right to something. Last time I checked Jim Rojas, Bob Campbell, and these other panel hackers didn't hold rights to the proprietary panels of other companies. What they are doing is wrong. Paint it, polish it, wrap it up anyway you'd like but they are wrong.

True. I don't know if you looked at my site back then but it stated clearly that we did not offer monitoring service to Florida locations. Every once in a while someone from Florida would ask and I just referred them to Jim Rojas or one of the others. IIRC, Rojas did some installation work for people I sent his way. I don't know what he charged them. That was his deal.
Some of the people doing all the whining are probably using Protect America. :^)
Correct. None of them were Florida customers. I use to help people program their systems, with no requirement that they buy anything from me. It was a courtesy service. After a while it became too time consuming though.

That's not true, Tom. I was still offering monitoring (though never in Florida) long after Mugford's complaint.
Correct.
I doubt his Pinto could keep up with me.
Heh. That was Sabodish's favorite claim, along with the millions he was selling each week. I checked him out with ADI some time ago. He did less than $20K in a year. I do that much in about a week. It would have been much more this year but I've been ill.

One UL listed nation-wide provider located in NJ has offered standard monitoring (non-800) for $2 per account with no minimum for years. I haven't spoken to them in some time so that may have changed but you can verify it in a minute. I think you know who I'm speaking of.
I don't think it was that long ago. Olson is a more recent jackass than that. The post that I should "get with the program" and raise my prices was probably six years ago or more.
OK, we're talking about two different things. By "proprietary" I mean junk like Sonitrol panels that no one else can service. You mean panels with proprietary information in them. I understand your position and I also understand Bob's. (No one understands Jim Rojas, but that's because his voice is muffled by all that junk in his garage:)).
I guess they feel differently that if the customer comes to them with an unusable panel that has been locked out it's up to the customer and whoever he bought the panel from to decide whose property the panel is. If it's fully paid for, I agree that it's the customer's property. If not, Jim and Bob have no way of knowing that. They are providing service to person in possession of the device.
I think a fair analogy is the fellow who drives into a service garage. He asks the mechanic to fix his car because the alarm is screwed up. The mechanic doesn't really know if he stole the car or paid for it. He fixes the alarm so the customer can use his car again. If it was stolen, it is the responsibility of the proper owner to persue the matter with the police. In the case of an alarm system the dealer who sold or leased it has the option to persue the errant client in court.
In all but the minutest fraction of a percent of events this would only result in a false dispatch to someone else's premises. What do you think the odds are that DIYer "A" programs his alarm to send a cancel code, then trips and resets it immediately after customer "B" has a real emergency on the same zone? Bear in mind that more and more professional monitoring centers are now comparing Caller ID data just to prevent such an occurence.
Some people would think you were out to rob them if you gave them the winning Lotto ticket. I tried to help that idiot, Houston, once and got attacked for it. I won't make that mistake again. Come to think of it, isn't that what happened to you when you tried to help Cracker?
Nah. They get even worse press than alarm installers.
Hey! I think I won something. What do you get when you're right on all the symptoms? Whoa! Yippee!
Oh hell, I probably won't get anything. I never do! Life sucks. Whimper, sob.
