IOS Problem for 3640 with WIC-1T and VWIC-1MFT-G703 in NM-2FE-2W

Loading thread data ...

Hi,

I think you will find it is there. Take a look at your running config. Does it say

! card type command needed for slot x ?

Note: Configuration of the E1 multiflex trunk ports is not like the T1 CSU/DSU WIC (WIC-1DSU-T1). Configure the E1 multiflex trunk ports as controller e1 slot/port , which is similar to the channelized E1/ISDN PRI network module. It wont work like a normal WIC module. You have to feed the router some commands before it will show up as an interface. There is lots of stuff about VOIP on the cisco website if you enter your card part number in and search configuration on it. Cheers

No lines like that, and conf t will not accept interface controller e1 etc etc

What IOS commands are you refrring to?

Hi,

There was no mention of an IOS on the page I was looking at. Ive got a G.703 DS3 card and by default I have to feed it a few commands before it gives me an interface to use. It seems your IOS is happy with it because its showing up. Normally when the IOS doesnt like it you would see unsupported WIC or the like.

Cheers

Says a 3640 should support a VWIC-1MFT-G703 in a NM-2FE-2W with IOS

We already have a WIC-1T in the first Slot 0 NM-2FE-2W

The IOS which has been working great is c3640-i-mz.123-4.T.bin

We have added in a VWIC-1MFT-G703= (1-Port RJ-48 Multiflex Trunk - G.703) into Slot 1 NM-2FE-2W

The hardware diagnostics sees the card as below, but the IOS does not as we do nto see a Controller E1 interface.

I researched the IOS to use and discovered

formatting link

The first article posted Aug 2000 states to use Install Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(2)XD or a later release, and the second article posted without date states to use 12.1(1)T

As I am using 123-4.T.bin then 12.1(1)T should work????

I have researched the cisco tools and cannot find a suitable IOS to support this config and I am beginning to wonder if there is one.

Does anyoine use WIC-1T and G703 in an NM-2FE-2W on a 3640 router or suggest how I find the right IOS.

Thanks Gary

MISSING ANY CONTROLLER FOR THE E1 card.

Hello Gary,

can you try and use the global command:

card type {t1 | e1} slot [bay]

first, and then try to configure the controller ?

Regards,

Naz

Where do I enter that? Under normal enable or in conf t

It is a Cisco 3640 router.

Neither worked or I am doing something silly?

Hello Gary,

this should be a global command, which you already tried, and apparently the command is not available...:( According to the documentation the VWIC-1MFT-G703 in combination with the NM-2FE2W in the 3640 requires 12.1(1)T or 12.2T. Can you try and load exactly one of those ? Normally you would suppose that higher IOS versions support everything below, but I have seen cases where that does not always work...

Naz

Logged a TAC case and it turns out the software advisor is broken.

Cool!
