My friend signed up for the SBC Yahoo DSL promotion for $14.99 a month. He was told he had to get a local line with a bunch of addons like LD. I told him he probably only needs a basic phone line with no call packages and addons, that he got the hard sell. Anyone know the requirement for phone line?

he got exactly what it says in the fine print. read the ads.
If your friend does it online you're not required to have any of the extras. Only a basic phone line with SBC/AT&T
Signing up over the phone always costs you more.
