UL Required to get License

Dec 05, 2005 66 Replies

What rubbish! I don't care if your daughter is a nurse or your wife is the weatherman. That has nothing to do with your refusal to bring your company into compliance with UL standards, let alone to get a proper UL listing. Just because you don't (or can't) comply with proper installation standards that doesn't

Quit trying to pass the buck. Either get your act together or stop attacking those who make the standards because you can't.

I always like that line. It started with me saying that any primate can install an alarm. The idiot from Waco responded that he didn't like it when I called him a primate. Heh, heh, heh. Like you, he obviously didn't realize that h*mo sapiens is a primate.

The fun part was explaining to Morgan that I didn't consider him a primate. The moron thought I was complimenting him. Heh, heh, heh.

Uh-huh. Sure.

choose to adhere to the standards and to uphold those standards by paying their dues.

municipality this issue is present, you would realize the comments you are making are unfounded.

Oh, really? Where's your UL cert???

More like a brick.

those very standards.

UL is just one choice...

Where's your FM cert??? Oops! You have nothing. You're not listed with *any* third party verifier. Nice try. Care to play again?

USA., you **must** buy from ADI.

Ah, but that's not the situation. They're only saying that the system must be certified by a third party (such as UL). Your problem is you're not listed with anyone at all. That's why you're losing fire alarm sales. The ironic part is that without needing a license or certification at all, I can sell system that you can't touch. Isn't that nice?

to be on their prefered list...

Didn't make the list with any of them, eh?

That's not even close to restraint of trade. The inspectors only want to make sure companies that install and service fire alarms do a good job. If you're unable to meet the standards that are being established that's your problem. And if that means people have to buy their commercial fire alarm systems from more reputable firms, tough luck.

doesn't mean it is rubbish.

The problem isn't the standard or the code. It is your unwillingness to adhere to either. If that is costing you business, then perhaps people in your area will be a little safer.

Or one can lose opportunity to sell commercial fire alarms. That is apparently what has happened to you. Please stop whining about it here.

Obviously not.

Anything that cuts into your revenue is a "big injustice," eh?

importance of following standards and submitting your work (I guess you call it that) to the authority of the standards writing agency.

Please stop this nonsense. You're being silly. Either get youself into compliance or forget doing commercial fire alarms.

You're the one who isn't allowed to do commercial fire alarms. Just stop doing them before you get caught and quit complaining about others who can still legally sell them.

that can't comply with the law want to force UL out].

Let's see. Since I came back you've posted lots of flames, filled your posts with childish insults and generally behaved like a spoiled 3-year old. If that is your idea of food for thought, perhaps you're referring to some Gerber product.

Uh-huh. Sure. :^)

Food for thought, eh?

Isn't it interesting how this thread turned from a news item about UL requiring licensing to provide service in Florida to another typical Bass Flame by Innuendo. What are you even doing responding in this thread, Robert?? You don't install *anything*, aren't licensed in Florida, and couldn't find your way around a fire alarm system if you had the manual *and* the software. You're a parts pusher. The only difference between you and the guys from Tri-Ed or ADI is that they work for companies that actually *support* the industry, local dealers, and installers!!!

Doesn't what?? You didn't finish your sentence. Just left all of us "hanging there", wondering what other bullshit was going to spew from that new Dell of yours...

Was this before or after you tried to get him fired by filing a false complaint with his boss?? I can't quite remember now...

municipality this issue is present, you would realize the comments you are making are unfounded.

This is the Robert I remember... "Twisting" the night away... Talk about "kicks and giggles"...

I thought they used thatch in Brazil...

UL is just one choice...

Did he say he was??? Hello??? Dang!!! No one's home again...

USA., you **must** buy from ADI.

How is that a problem?? You don't have to be listed with UL to install, service or inspect a fire alarm system...

Where did he say he was losing fire alarm sales???

Heh... Sure, Robert... Who verifies the systems you sell?? Who services the systems you sell?? Better yet... who installs the systems you sell and do you provide the tech support??

Apparently neither did you... when you were running your "modestly successful central station alarm company...

Nope... That's not what the inspectors want. Not ever being involved with UL or ULC certificated systems, you wouldn't know, would you??

Where did he say he was unable to meet the standards??

Let's see... who would be a good reputable firm??? In Florida?? That specializes in Fire Alarm... and is licensed... Ermmm... I guess that leaves you out on a number of counts...

Where did he say this?? Go back and read what he wrote again, Robert. Before you wind up putting both feet into your mouth...

Heh... Bob doesn't have anything to worry about... You, OTOH... Didn't you just recently undergo an examination by the ECLB?? Or was that the State Attorney's office??

Robert. I'd ask you to stop, but I know you won't listen, so I'll just sit back and watch you make a bigger fool of yourself than usual... Tsk!!

Did he say that??? Where???

"Doing" a commercial fire alarm isn't the same as "selling" a commercial fire alarm. "Doing" one has several components in it that you can't offer. Like *installation*, *service*, *inspection*. What you don't seem to realize is that *anyone* can *sell* a commercial fire alarm system (even the guys behind *my* counter). ;-)

Don't you mean "truth"??

Really?? Where??

Nope... it's called "kicks and giggles"...

Robert, This thread is a perfect example of why you get so much flak in the newsgroup. You were not UL listed when you were installing, most of us can't afford $2500 to be a member. Your whole discussion appears to be argumentative and demeaning to everyone! I generally agree with your postings, but you are out of line here. Allan

Allan,

Roberts contributions to this thread are nothing more than an attack on me. That is OK, he doesn't bother me. I sometimes wonder if his negativity sometimes dilutes the importancy of some of the information though, whether it be from me, you or anyone else. He, for one, is the first to shot the messenger. He is definately disruptive at times. I could have brought info to the group that cow's are going to be mooing to the tune of Silent Night and he would have argued that cow's only bark at the moon and chastize me for not upgrading my herd. He is just mad because he knows that I am privy to info that he doesn't get until they knock on his door. Thanks for noticing his position, as out of line, though.

Wow did I ever pick a bad time to quit sniffing glue. Allan slaps Bass on the same night I am wrong about something? Talk about signs of the Apocolypse. Jesus Christ Mikey I better run to Confession before the church closes.

I was just jerking Worthless' chain. Kicks and giggles, you know.

Of course I wasn't UL Listed. I never needed the listing because the vast majority of my installations were residential. I wasn't trying to market my CS to other dealers (though a few did contract us to do their monitoring) so it wasn't worth the expense or bother. I wondered how long it would take for someone to mention that I never bothered with a UL Listing either. :^)

As to the noise in the newsgroup, it started up as soon as I came back and I wasn't the one who started it. The same morons, beginning with Olson and Leuck, started the same crap they always do. Truth is I couldn't care less what they think. I answer end users' questions, try to help the occasional newbie tech and run my online business. If that bothers them and/or compels them to fill the newsgroup with assinine, schoolyard garbage, that's OK too.

You don't like being attacked, eh? Good. Learn something, moron.

I wouldn't call your pitiful efforts an "attack" exactly. "Flailing about" as you did just made you look childish and petty...

You know Frank I have a friend at P1 who's been to every Prince concert that's ever taken place in Texas, he's got every Prince album including a few dozen nobodies heard of, he has a notebook with all his Prince ticket stubs and a ton of Prince posters..

He's says he's not infatuated with Prince and doesn't think he has a problem...you know what I mean?

What!!! YOu gotta problem with "Prince"????

I simply made a comment that your only contributions were an attack on me, but if you would have read further, you might have noticed that I **also** said that they don't bother me. Obviously, by your ending, "Learn something (snip more insults)" you are obiviously bothered, due to your interpetation of attacks, when they are nothing more than amusement (kicks and giggles) for those that realize your meger intellectual capabilities and your propensity to babble. We know you get all excited, like a little kid, when you post these type of things, so go to the bathroom quick before you pee your pants, than you can come back and play.

Uh-huh... and DVD's... and posters... and a cologne... and... and... this is a test, right?? I see what you guys are doing... OK... OK... so I ordered a couple of tube tops from Robert... I *never* wore 'em though (in public)... There nice because I don't have to turn on the room light to go to the bathroom... And my wife likes 'em because it makes it easier to find me in the back yard after dark.

Hitting the REPLY button is just instinct for you isn't it?

Actually, it's a "reflex"... My "instincts" were warning about replying in this thread though... ;-)

Connecticut. That WAS a UL listed central station, wasn't it?

Nope. I never needed a UL listing. But it was fun getting your Worthless pal all defensive, especially after the crap he's said about me.

Yep. The fact is that all but a handful of installations by UL listed alarm companies meet UL standards. For most the UL certificate is just a marketing gimick. If you want to install commercial fire alarm systems for a living, you really should go for the UL listing. The same applies if you want to bid on banks and such. Most government contracts don't require it (or at least they didn't up to 5 years ago when I sold my alarm company).

If it bothers you when I put one of your pals on the defensive that's a plus.

Speaking of UL listings, leadership and so forth.... Oh, Mugsy? Naah. No point in asking. The idiot can't even spell UL, let alone fill out the application.
