PC5010 - LCD-5501Z: Constant trouble light and beep on install

I've searched the forum, but have been unable to find anyone with a similar situation to mine. I've completed wiring a Power 832 system, purchased from ebay (mistake?). This is the 3rd similar system a friend and I have installed and set-up (other 2 were Power 632 - and had no issues). On initial power up, the keypad showed the time "12:00", but after ~ 20-30 seconds, the trouble light comes on, and the keypad emits a constant beeping, and is unresponsive to any keystrokes. If I try entering programming mode before the initial 20-30 seconds, I can only enter 5 keystrokes before it becomes unresponsive. For example, if I try to enter programming mode, I can press *8 555 then it goes dead. Pressing *2 on initial power up does nothing. I've tried a hardware reset (power down, short PGM1 and Zone1, power up - key sequence as per manual), but nothing happens. As per this forum, I've tried # 1 (holding them 3 seconds) thinking maybe the keypad was assigned as global or on partition 2, but again, this does not work. I can still only enter 5 keystrokes after doing the # 1 sequence. For background, after the initial wiring, when I turned it on, the siren also sounded when the trouble light was on. I started disconnecting components until I had only the keypad on. Still the same problem. I've also tried a second LCD-5501Z keypad, with the same result. I'm starting the think I've got a 'DOA' PC5010 board. Any help reviving it would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Dan.

I don't think it's a "dead board". Try hooking the keypad up directly to the keybus (a short piece of four conductor will do nicely. It sounds to me like you've got a loose connection (or a broken wire).

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned, when I tried the 2nd keypad, I in fact connected it directly to the keybus to rule out the possibility of a shorted conductor.

Is your system partitioned??

I can't tell if it's partitioned, since I'm unable to access the system. It was purchased as "new", therefore I assumed it was coming with factory defaults.

Power it down completely. Wait for about 30 seconds. Power it back up again. If you hear the relay on the lower right portion of the board rapidly "click", then the board you have is "locked". IOW, it's not "new", it's "used" (and probably partitioned).

Tried it this evening, and I do not hear a click from the board. I also emailed DSC technical support, and they told me they are limited in the support they are allowed to give consumers (ridiculous!), but the technician said the panel is not recognizing the keypad. Not sure where to go from here.

DSC provides technical support to dealers. Since you bought your panel new on ebay, why aren't you seeking help from your vendor? js

Ahh the wonders of buying security parts from ebay.....

I am seeking help from the vendor, but have been unsuccessful to this point. I've since received additional information as to DSC support, and perhaps I was too quick to call it "ridiculous". In this age of the internet, I've set my standards pretty high for quick and reliable technical support.

You win some, you lose some. As stated earlier, this is the 3rd system I've (or friends) purchased from various ebay vendors, and the first one that is problematic. Even if I have to purchase a new PC5010 board, I'm still ahead several hundred dollars.
