Is Dictograph Security still in business as a manufacturer? We had someone call in wanting service for one with some power issues. I have heard of Dictograph but don't remember ever doing anything with one.

Ademco manufactured most of their equipment. Mostly it was just a regular Ademco product with a few enhancements and packaged differently. Nothing complicated or that a rocket scientist couldn't figure out after taking a short trip to Belgium.
No, the original Dictographs were made by Dictograph however later models were rebranded FBI and Napco
You're wrong. Dictograph in the 60's tried producing their own equipment but they found it easier to have Ademco modify their panels into version that were slightly different. Dictograph had their versions of the Ademco
221( I think it was the SD1 or 233) 330 332 and similar versions of the 502 fire panel and 512 zone expander. They also used the Ademco 527 smoke detector too. Going really far back to the early 70's they also had versons of the ademco 1000 series panels too, reversing relay 1005 and if I'm not mistaken they had a UL Ademco panel too. After about the mid 80's I lost track of what they were doing and maybe that's the time and equipment that you're talking about, but through a lot of the 70's Ademco manufactured most of their equipment.
I don't doubt that and I'm not familiar with the older Ademco stuff but in the 90's they used rebranded FBI 4600's, 4800's, Legend 100's and Napco

I was just looking at one of their old residential units. That "woodpecker" relay that Ademco had is really some design. Those things work forever. I'm working on a project for a builder that I think is going to use one of those relays.

The original residential control we used back in the early 80's was the 990. It had the woodpecker relay. 6 volt DC panel, 1 zone with a panic zone. No power input. Had to install a moose 6 volt supply and battery to power the panel. There are still several of the 990 and 55-0 still in service in this area. I may even have one or 2 in the attic. LOL
Just for the record, can you say who manufactured most of their equipment back then?
