Possible to Remote desktop through a Sonicwall TZ-170 without VPN?

I have tried port forwarding on this with no luck on either standard(3389) or non standard ports.  Do I have to have a VPN in order to useRemote Desktop?-Jim

I have several of these units out in the field and working with similarsetups. Obviously I would always recommend using vpn or the GVPN tosecurely connect, but it isnt a requirement. Are you trying to createthese rules step by step or using the wizard? Also, are you running thestandard or enhanced OS. I would just go to Firewall->RuleWizard->Next->Public Rule Wizard->Next->choose your service, ip, anddestination interface. That should be all that is necessary so long asyou d

Alan,Thanks for the reply.  I have tried both the wizard and manually.  I amavoiding the VPN as I don't want to pay for client licenses just toaccomplish this task.  I have tried connecting to both TerminalServices and a custom service I created.  I know RD to this machine isworking as I can get to it from the LAN.   Basically, I went to and got the external IP address and am using that to tryand connect.  The rules are at the top of the list.-Jim
