Help with router

I know this has nothing to do with firewalls but you have been kind in answering my previous posts. Which group is the best to get help with a router? tried searching for router but nothing suitable coming up.

Or if anyone can advise on the following problem it would be appreciated.

My friend is on tiscali broadband and has just bought a linksys router HG200 the problem is that when it is connected to the pc (Ethernet) the pc is very very slow (Win XP Home) & takes at least 10-15 minutes to shutdown! It also won't download emails (Outlook 2000 I think) without disabling Norton NIS

2005.

On removing the router & plugging in her original modem the pc shuts down in seconds. She needs to use the router so her children can connect & use the broadband connection without using her pc.

Any ideas or where is best to post this question.
