is it possible to only 'listen' to RIP traffic? in other words don't advertise RIP just modify routing table based on what you 'hear' from other RIP peers.
how do you configure that on a cisco router?
only listen to rip.

You need to make an interface passive to supress RIP on the interface: router rip passive-interface
config any interface on which RIP should just listen as passive
router rip passive-interface exit
