Wireless Security system info wanted

i saw the thread, but it didn't address my needs. From What I've seen only Ademco has a wireless keypad, but it doesn't have a cabinet for the CPU. I'm new at this, just had my house burglerized this week and looking for a solution. I need pretty much wireless everything. No basement or availablity to the attic for wiring. The mounting of the CPU and keypad in different sides of the house.

I wish I had more flexability for more of a hybrid system.

If I was in a single story or had a basement, i'd be in high cotton.

I've never looked at this stuff before, need hints and suggestions not useless comments. The internet search is a great tool, but nothing can replace experienced people offering valid help.

Where were the neighbors during the burglary? Check their next tag sale and you'll see everything you are missing. I'm not one to gossip but word on the street says the neighbors have been casing your crib since the day you moved in.

Whatever alarm system you choose to have installed make sure it is monitored!

Alarm systems only speak alarm language, you or your neighbor probably won't understand what it's saying. You'd have to add a voice dialer to any alarm system to do what you want (Im not recommending this, just telling you that youd have to buy another thing).

One of my neighbors was probably in the house, or at least her daughter who has a drug problem. Thats one of my problems. The other neighbor doesn't have much visability to my entrance ways.

Your probably right on the monitoring service. I'll look into it!!

As for the DIY alarm, unless you really know how to run a wire without going staple gun crazy then hire an alarm company to do it. It's really not worth it on the DIY side. You save a few hundred bucks but lose precious time reading manuals and trying to figure out how to install the system, when for the few extra bucks someone who knows what they are doing can have your system up and running within hours. Tell me what State you are in and I'll help you find a decent company.

I really don't have a way to run a cable for the key pad to the front of the house. He suggested the FOB for entry and having the keypad in the rear of the house closer to the control head. (the only place i can run wire due to 2-story and tile floors)

I will do monitoring, its cheaper than I thought and the insurance discount will cover most of the cost.

Dave, Do you have closet above closet in the front of the house? Do you have carpet on the second floor? If the answer to both is yes then you could mount the control panel in the 2nd floor closet, drill down to the first floor closet and mount the keypad and siren outside the closet, wireless receiver inside the closet, and use a 2nd floor carpet run to access phone. Too bad there's no attic or crawl space. Regarding rec.aviation, throw a post in there saying you're thinking about buying an alarm from BoBo, and I'll bet the thread will grow to over 50 replies :-)

No. It's 2006. Robert's math skills are on a par with his flying skills. I figure it's also how he managed to squeeze "Attention Burglars. Go ahead. Make my day." into a 32 character LCD keypad. He just can't count.

Thats challenging. But it's got me thinking. :-) I can rerun the incoming phone line to the second story to the panel, then run wires under the carpet to close to where I would like it.

The control panel would be in the master bedroom closet, but thats not a bad place for it to be.

Might even be able to get to the closet by the front door.

Any tips for pulling up the carpet without messing it up?

Robert Bass is a long time trouble maker here in ASA. He's insulted just about anyone and everyone who takes any position that even slightly opposes his. He takes swipes at people and then when they respond and get angry at his arrogance and snotty attitude, he will then stand aloof and say they are the cause.

He's even reported someone to one of the aviation boards for flying while intoxicated, yet had no proof. In other words, because he had a disagreement in the news group, he tried to get even by getting the other person barred from flying.

Bass's sole and only purpose here is to promote and sell equipment from his web site. He ridicules anyone who thinks that he shouldn't be doing that and constantly belittles alarm installers. The original FAQ of the group said that there should be no advertising, but he ignores that. The original founder of the group Steve Rykman left the group in total frustration many years ago, because of the futility of trying to make the group a peaceful place with out it being moderated. The turmoil was over Bass insisting on advertising his web site to end users and his arrogant attitude towards installers who do this for a living. Bass continuously mocks installers so as to make it appear that all end users can install systems easily. Unfortunately, Steve finally left.

The problem with what he does here is, it disrupts the group so much and no one comes here to add to the conversation and those that do, without seeing the past history of *why* ............ only see the disruption that I or anyone who outwardly opposes him causes, and it only looks like we and not Bass, who's the cause of the carnage. Again, the past turmoil that occurred in the aviation group was of the same nature as occurs here. So it's not just a coincidence that in both groups that he's in, that it's like this.

At present all is pretty calm because everyone pretty much lets him get away with what ever egotistical and pompous posts he makes. Most don't like what he does here but many wont join in any attempt to sanction him for any reason. By the way, privately (by e-mail) they just plain don't like him, but they're just too laid back to get involved with trying to put him in his place. I cannot count the number of people who no longer come here because of what this man has caused in this group. I would estimate forty or fifty people, at the least.

Just thought I'd fill you in a little. I've been here for about 7 years and Bass is just one of those people that, it it were real life, you'd leave any group he was involved with, because you'd likely wind up being put away for assault. He's an instigator and a purveyor of turmoil wherever he goes.

If you'd like references to do some searches on past events, just let me know. He's a nasty arrogant lying SOB and a Google search will prove it. Unfortunately in such groups as this, people like yourself don't have the history of misfits like this and can be easily taken in by his slimey offerings of help. He's had repeated complaints against him and repeated claims of no response to emails, when his customers need help.

Beware and buy elsewhere. You"ve got nothing to lose by going somewhere else for you equipment.
