Wireless Security system info wanted

This will be time consuming but you might like the challenge. Rather than spending money on a tool that you might only use once try using something like a plastic spatula or taping knife as a wedge between the molding and carpet, and tuck the wire underneath the molding. Push the carpet back into place and do NOT staple the wires in. Regardless of what anyone says keep in mind you will one day replace that carpet, and you'd be best served if you didn't need to rerun wire again because the carpet guy snipped the wire. Just food for thought.

Y'know, The OP should really take some time and Google "Robert L Bass liar" in Google's "Groups" page. First, precede it with "alt.security.alarms", then "alt.rec.aviation". It's truly amazing what's out there (and what's worse, it's all posted from his own keyboard).

I can't remember all the lies he's told about me (the list just keeps growing). He hasn't been able to peg down where I work so continues to make references to my being a "counter clerk", has blatantly lied about my "offering" to donate money to some fireman's museum, then reneging on it and a whole lot more.

He absolutely refuses to answer some key questions I've put to him regarding his installation experience in CT, continues to make misleading comments about that "experience" (even though he isn't licensed in Florida), and what's even more ludicrous, figures his "customer support" is on a par with "Smarthome" or "Norcoalarms". What's really incredible is that most of his customers wind up posting their questions and complaints into this Newsgroup as it's practically impossible to call him on the phone, and you can "forget" email. He hasn't updated his "office's" address for months.

It's best not to respond to him at all, IMHO. Practically the only reason I do these days is to ask for some form of "proof" for his more outlandish claims and stories (you'll notice he's never responded).

In addition to what Jim's said, be aware that he has pop-under advertising on his primary website (which he vehemently denies to this day). The most insidious of the ads that "rotate" on each visit is called "Winfixer" which has been identified by Symantec as a moderate security risk. The pop-up for this software is "timed" very carefully and if you "left click" too quickly you could easily wind up installing it. I'd suggest using a good "pop-up/pop-under" blocker. I do hope the OP sticks around for the "kicks and giggles" though.

If you pull up a small section of carpet at a time and put it right back on the tack strips as you go you might get away without using a carpet kicker.

I've tried it that way but it usually looks better afterward if you use the carpet kicker. I don't mind running a small cable between the tack strip and the wall but I wouldn't advise running wire across the middle of the floor under the carpet. I've seen this on numerous takeovers. The idiots who originally installed the systems ran cable right across the room instead of around the edges. Within a short time normal foot traffic destroys the cable.

yea me too. I went out to take over a DIY system that had done this. Also run wire down corner of walls for motions, a real mess. Declined the take over. Looked like a monkey had done the install with just enough phone tech support to be dangerous. A good installer can usually tuck the wires under base board or pull carpet out from under base board if too tight to tuck, then kick back with foot or carpet kicker after retucking carpet.

the way they do carpet out here there usually isn't much room under the baseboards, so it's usually peel back enough to channel the tack strip then lay the wire on the room side of the tack strip...or remove the baseboards and slot the drywall then re-install the baseboards (yecho)...thank god for good wireless systems.

But can you get 2 Napco alpha's attached to the same system to display two totally different messages simultaneously? Huh? Huh? Huh? That's what I figured. Come back when you learn it :-)

Most of the homes in Florida these days only have carpet in the bedrooms. Everyplace else is tile or granite. I've run cable behind the baseboard molding occasionally -- not fun. We did a bunch of old homes in New Britain, CT, many years ago. Most were built in the early 1920's. Several were over 100 years old. In the largest one there was an outside patio that had been enclosed and they wanted the doors and screens protected. We did alarm screens on all the windows in that house, around 40 of them.

The baseboard in the patio room was tile. A tech who worked for me for many years did the job. He routed the plaster wall just above the tile, removed the wood trim around an outside door and all the windows, ran his wires, installed the door contacts and window screens, closed everything up and touched up the paint (fortunately, the room had recently been painted and there was a little of the wall color left over). When the customer got home he couldn't find a trace of where we had worked. He was the best technician I ever had.

I had a page on my FAQ describing the proper way to remove and replace baseboards and door/window trim. It was a combination of things I've done myself and things learned from that same technician.

You actually program your panels? Damn Crash you need to do what I do. Just call Mark and ask him to do it. BTW, what part of the Northeast did you live in?

In your case that was the best thing to do :)

I just put up a 1664 with each of the different keypads and it's not terribly bad although painfully slow
