Electric Piston

Yeah! Laugh! I have seen them called that before. I have an application for a small electric piston or actuator with a straight throw of about 1 1/2 inches. 12VDC powered would be preferred as there is excess capacity available on the other systems in place in that part of the premise. Small size would be best. I would like to bury it insie a rather narrow chunk of wood so that the piston only comes out into "open space" when actuated. It only needs to be able to exert a couple pounds of force, and a slow start would be best, but given that price may be an issue a buffer could be added in the application to reduce initial force of contact.

Suggestions?

What about solenoid from car(auto) central-locking door actuator? They may be available in anafter-market kit.
