It's done all the time with vault in the old days, a special type of magnetic contact is mounted on the outside of the vault. Can you beat it ? Yes, but you will have to know how it works, and no, you can't beat it by bringing another magnet to it.
not too difficult if they're all like the one in the article is... sounds like the system they had needed an extra $5 worth of parts
