I have Zonealarm pro and I am wanting to activate the lock while I am away on holidays so my son can't access the web. Does anyone know if the lock remains on after you shut down the PC and then reboot ?

I don't think so . It will be on by default.

I tried doing the same thing with ZoneAlarm, it comes back on in default-- on mode.
I am not sure if pro does the same thing.
