URL for Norton Internet Security Check?

Jun 22, 2005 6 Replies

I have Norton Internet Security 2005. The button "Check Security" does not work - only opens a blank Explorer window.

I assume it should be opening an Internet page. Can someone tell me what the URL is?

I spent almost an hour on the Symantec site trying to get help with no luck.

Thanks

Jane

This sounds more like a problem with name resolution in your web browser. If you can browse other sites with no problems, then you should check your Hosts file and see if there is an entry in it for Symantec. If there is, delete it and try browsing again. Some malware will put bogus entries in the Hosts file to keep the browser from getting the correct IP address from the ISP's DNS server.

Are you able to run a Security Check using the URL that you gave me? I was wrong when I said the "Go" button didn't work. It was on the next screen when I clicked on "Start" that I got the error page.

Could you try it and tell me if it works for you. At least that will narrow the problem down to my machine.

Thanks

Never mind. I was trying in a FireFox browser. When I tried IE and allowed it to install ActiveX it worked.

Thanks for the URL - it still won't work from the Norton Internet Security product so you really helped me out.

Well, at least I got the URL right. ;) I should have thought about the alternate browser. I also use both Firefox and IE. Glad you got it sorted. Don't know why it wouldn't work from NIS, though. Works from my version of Norton Personal Firewall 2003. Must have been the upgrade. D'oh!!
