tracert router missing ?

A little testbed lan at home with a 1600 and a 2500 ; I see that when I do a dos tracert from a PC who's gateway points to the 1600 (going accross to a E0 on the 2500) all I see reported are the ethernet address , and not the IP's of the routers - is that normal ?

It is if you are using "ip unnumbered", or if the devices are configured to not generate ttl-exceeded messages.
