Cisco 857 config question.

Sep 28, 2007 3 Replies

I currently use an 837. In addition to the dialer config, I have acl's, port forwarding etc.

I've read that the 857 and 877 are 'fixed-configuration routers.' I'd like to upgrade to one but need to be able to configure it via the IOS. '

After two days of looking, I still can't find the answer. Is it possible to 'custom' configure these or are they just plug and play type routers? Thanks.

When Cisco says fixed configuration, they mean that the routers/ switches/etc cannot take any hardware modules (like WAN Interface Cards). Those routers do run IOS and you'll be able to configure them via IOS. You just can't add or remove any of the interfaces, they are built into the router.

Ah. That clears it up. Thanks Oliver.

You will almost be able to paste your configuration from the 837 in to the 8[57]7. Very slight differences.
