Cisco 1841 cannot be booted (due to port mac-address error??)

I am facing the similar problem. After I de-attached and attached the CF card (with c1841-ipbase-mz.124-1c.bin) during the Cisco 1841 was being booted, the router could not be booted properly with any WICs.

If with CF card runing "c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124-15.T3.bin", it hangs up in the way similar to yours (.... Installed image archive ....).

I tried to tftpdnld from rommon but it said "get_mac_address(): Search T_IDPROM_MACADDR (0xc3) failed" and "Illegal MAC address."

If I swapped the unloadable CF cards to another Cisco 1841, it worked. I pretty sure that the CF cards work correctly.

I just got a now rommon file "C1800_RM2.srec.123-8r.YH12" (IOS) and see if it can help.

Please give me some suggestions!

Pull all WICs from the non-booting 1841. Are you sure the WICs are genuine Cisco gear?

This ROMMON file is NOT for the 1841(!!!) but for 180x/181x fixed config routers.

already tried to get off all WICs and boot the router but still failed.

any idea for the error "get_mac_address(): Search T_IDPROM_MACADDR (0xc3) failed" and "Illegal MAC address." during tftpdnld on rommon mode ?

Is your cookie valid? Maybe that got whackered? What does 'cookie' look like from the PROM?

I would think that a corrupt cookie wouldn't let you boot at all, but maybe this box isn't checking the checksum on it.

If anything, sounds more like a repair job for Cisco to handle, but there is a page out there on repairing cookies.
