I have a 6509 with a sup 720 and when I boot, it goes into rommon. There is an image in flash which I can boot into, enterting the boot command from rommon. When I restart instead of booting to the image it goes into rommon. What do I need to change so it will boot directly into flash?

in your configuration add:
boot system flash XXXXX:imagename.bin
XXX is the device that holds the image
example
boot system flash bootflash:sup720abc123.bin or boot system flash disk0:sup720abc123.bin or boot system flash slot0:sup720abc.123.bin
The config register is set to 0x2102
With the 720 the syntax is the following:
boot system flash sup-bootflash:sup720abc123.bin
