Can ping wireless router but not internet connection

I have a situation where I can ping the router but I can't pull up any internet connection. OS is Windows 98. Router is Netgear 802.11g and Netgear USB 2.0 wireless adapter connected to PC. TCP/IP is set to get IP address automatically. Netgear software connects to the router but I can not log on to the router as no login screen comes up.

Any suggestions?

If you cannot see 192.168.1.1 (or whatever your router homepage is) then you are NOT connected to the wireless LAN, despite what your systray icon tells you!

Are you using encryption? Do the keys match? Have you entered the ssid correctly etc.?
