Salesman Ratio

Does anyone here subscribe to this theory? I understand one of my competitors says he has 2 salesmen for every installer he has. They do custom homes and pre-wire most of them. Seems like you would end up with a bunch of extra salesmen to me.? What ratio do you guys have?

High-end resi is more like 2 installers for every salesperson. Depends on your target market, I guess. Seems to me that 2 productive salespeople ought to keep 3 or 4 installers very busy.

Does anyone in the group hire employees to perform Sales and Installation??? If yes, how does/did it workout???

Yes, many times. In all the years I have been a contractor I have had three guys who could install competantly or better, and none who could sell.

I have also had a couple guys who might have been able to install if they had lasted long enough to learn the trade.

Of the three who could install. One does not wnat to work at all. One has all kinds of weird demands and personal restrictions, and one is now doing for the county all the stuff I trained him to do.
