In the 29+ years I've been in this industry there has yet to be one successful lawsuit against an installing dealer published in any of the trade journals based on a "bug" in an alarm panel. The most common causes cited in product liability lawsuits against alarm dealers have consistently been failure to respond and improper or inadequate installation.

The next most common source of lawsuits (and this is growing) isn't actually a product liability issue at all. It's misleading advertising / unfair trade. Most of these lawsuits are brought by attorneys general of various states against dealers who offer "free" systems which require paid monitoring services.

The fact is, despite repeated claims to the contrary, successful product liability lawsuits in the alarm industry are relatively rare compared to other industries such as automotive. Part of the reason successful lawsuits are so rare is that alarm companies almost invariably have very carefully worded disclaimers of warranty, limitations of liability and third party indemnification clauses in their contracts.

You're kidding right? that panel had tons of problems.

  1. Chips would dislodge during shipping
  2. Internal modules would fail (like the escort) which would mean replace entire panel
  3. It would often forget zone descriptions
  4. Phone line monitor too sensitive which would result in runaway signals

Almost as bad as the old Moose Z1100...

Well if you think about it every panel is a beta test no matter how long it's been out in the field

I forgot to add that we installed about 4,000 of them 5 years ago and ended up changing out 33% or em

Rumour has it that the reason why DSC came out with this new line at this particular time was because Europe has mandated there can be no lead contained in any high tech products after a certain future date. So DSC took the opportunity to "trump" the market since they had to do major work on their boards anyway. If true, the other manufacturers will be following suit depending upon how important they see overseas markets (Paradox....very important...others, I couldn't even hazard a guess.....)

Since I have no way to confirm the above, take the rumour for what it's worth.....
