Where to start?

Question

Hi guysI'm completely new to this home automation thing but I'm quite excitedand I was wondering if you can give some pointers on where to start.All I got now is a copy of "Smart Homes for Dummies" and somedescriptions of the X-10 protocol. Maybe you can suggest a littleproject to start with. Nothing fancy just some ABC's.Thanks a lot!

Tell us a little about what you'd like to be able do and how much you'd like to invest.  You can get started for under $100 but it would be good to have an idea where you're headed.  How big is your home? How many lights do you want to control? Do you have a security system? Do you want whole house audio? Lot's of questions.  Do just get started automating some lights I'd recommend X10 or Insteon. BernardoHGaribay wrote:

Hello,I reply to this topic because I have the same question as Bernardo.I apologize for my English: it is not goot at all.I have an aparamentet with 4 rooms + kitchen + 2 bathrooms.It is still under construction (floor and walls are already up); nolights, no switches, no outlets yet.I'd like to control some lights, if possible the heating and I wantaudio in all rooms.I the aparament where I live right now I have Windows Vista with aprojector and I use Media center for tv + video + audio.I would like to integrate it with home automation.Last thing: I live in Switzerland, so the standard may be different.Thank you all for your support :o)Filippo
