We tested Sygate Personal Firewall Pro 5.5. And this software installs system services itself, which are part of Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, which have this security design flaw.

This is, what

Yes. And why not?
Zone Alarm does not have this design flaw, but others:
- It asks using Popups what to let through - and it ask the only person, who should not be asked, the user. The user is the person, who should be protected, not the person, who should be responsible for the protection.
- It is vulnerable to the SelfDoS attack. And this is very stupid.
- It failes with "outbound protection", test
The latter is not a design flaw, it's just lying in advertizing, as the "stealthing" nonsense is, GRC introduced

The Windows-Firewall.

One should have another look onto this software. When I have too much time, I'll do it, because it's superfluous anyway.
And having such design flaws proofs, that Sygate don't understand Windows security at all.
Yours, VB.
because it doesn't block outbound calls !!!
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
oh porca vacca !!! (in italian) oh my god (in english)
a part windowx xp firewall repeat (a part this) , should you suggest me a your_good-preferite_firewall ?
Yes. And why should this be a problem? Just test:
Sorry, I don't understand, what you want. Please explain.
Yours, VB.
why does a program have to go outbound without my permission ?
Just test:
I'll try as soon as I'll back home
which firewall do you suggest for a home_pc and not for a international bank a part windows_xp_firewall ? (sorry for the requests)
Why are you installing and configuring such programs, if you don't want to permit, what they're programmed to do?
None. I'm suggesting the Windows-Firewall, because I had a closer look on:
And what I had to see, made my hair stood on end.
This is why I'm not recommending any "Personal Firewall".

I don't understand well well your ask btw it doesn't serve to go outbound certainly I don't block internet explorer, firefox or update of my antivirus , acrobat reader, windows update ... In general I'd like to know what a program does (like as in the real life I try to know what a thing does like my car, my phonecell ecc ecc)
stood on !!! phrasal-verb ... I hate them (I'm italian) I didn't discored the mean on my dictionary english-italian :'(
There is the possibility to read the documentation. If you're not trusting in a program or a company, don't use this program or their products.
Or use Free Software or Open Source products, so you can read the source code and see, what's going on.
I'm German ;-)
I just searched for "die Haare zu Berge stehen" in mine ;-) I mean, it was really horrible what I hade to face.

It doesn't. Just configure it not to, or remove it if it won't let you.
[...]In case this hasn't been clear before: we DO NOT recommend ANY personal firewall other than the Windows-Firewall. And the latter only because it's there anyway and doesn't pretend to be capable of blocking outbound connections.

That's ridicululous! Even Microsoft doesn't understand Windows security or there wouldn't be patches every month. If you are happy with Microsoft's own firewall and think that is sufficient, then why consider Sygate at all.

Why are you concerned about which PFW (software firewall) might be best? Using a broadband connection (DSL, Cable Modem, Tn, etc.) without a hardware device (at the very least, a cheap NAT router) means that you are screwed anyway.
Ron ;)
Nope.
A patch fixes an error in a program. Interactive services are not programming errors, but flawed design in clear contradiction to Microsoft's recommendations [1].
We don't.

Volker, could you answer one more question? I'm not trying to be obstinate---Just trying to learn something. I'm not an IT person. Do you happen to know what ports (local/remote) these services are active on (listening, outgoing or whatever)? Thank you very much. Casey
Yes, it is. If a company like Sygate wants to sell "security products", they should have a clue of Windows programming and security with Windows, shouldn't they?
Yes. Sygate is superfluous, too.

This is a misunderstanding.
Microsoft calls processes, which usually don't have UI, "services". In the UNIX world, such processes are called "daemons".
This has nothing to do with networking.
