ping and syslog and Symantec Antivirus Corp. Ed.

Problem with Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition on XP:

Tried to syslog messages from my router to a syslog daemon on the XP machine, did not work. Network sniffer showed that packets (UDP, port 514) were sent by the router.

Tried to ping the XP machine from another Win98 machine on the same network, did not work.

Disabling the Antivirus "realtime filesystem protection" (translated this text from german) using the taskbar symbol immediately opened the flood of syslog messages into the daemons window. Also now able to ping the XP machine from the Win98 machine (both, via IP and machine name).

Enabling the protection again does not do further harm. Still syslos and pings working. But after new power up the XP machine both are blocked again. Always have to manually disable and enable the protection once to get syslog and ping working.

How to solve this?

Best Regards, Juergen
