Problems with Overruns and Noise on async line

Hi I have an application which communicates with a RS232 based device using TCP/IP and a Cisco 2611 with an async line. However I'm having problems where the connection sometimes goes down and up again. I used the "show line" command and saw that there are alot of Overruns and Noise.

Tty Typ Tx/Rx A Modem Roty AccO AccI Uses Noise Overruns Int 0 CTY - - - - - 0 0 0/0 -

Can the Overruns and the Noise be the cause of the problem? How many Overruns are accaptable, and what can I do to fix it? What exactly causes an Overrun? Any recommendations or tips about where I can read about this.

Any help is very appriciated, thanks.
