WCG200, any thoughts?

There's also the Motorola SBG900, which I have. It supports 802.11g as well. Plus, Motorola's Mac support is a lot better than Linksys'.

Hi,

Does anyone have experience with this device? I've been looking for a one box cable modem/gateway solution that supports 802.11g for ages and this looks pretty nice. I am wondering about a few things though:

At present, it apparently only supports the standard 54MBPS while Linksys has already released at least one standalone router that offers

108MBPS capability. Do we know whether the WCG200 will be firmware upgradable to 108MBPS and if not, whether they have plans to release a newer model?

Right now, I have Comcast. I anticipate continuing with Comcast for the foreseeable future but if things were to change and I decided to go with DSL somewhere down the line, Would I be able to disable the cable modem portion and use it as a standard router with support for PPP (oe)?

Are there any similar devices from other companies that I should consider as well?

Thanks for any info,

I have this router and have been happy with ity since I got it 2 months

ago. I am on comcast.

I disabled wireless when I got it. The LED in OFF

I have just gotten a work compter with wireless, and have learned that

even with the wireless disabled, it was still trasmitting, and allowing

log-on and internet access, LED OFF.

In fact, the only way to prevent any log-ins is to turn on MAC

filtering, and when I use the correct MAC address for my loptop card,

it still won't let my laptop connect.

I was just on the phone with Linksys. They will send me another unit,

but there is only one version of firmware. This model is not weill

support, and there is now the same unit that comcast uses with a

comcast version of SW.

The lady also told me that only use the WEP security, because the

WPA-PSK & radius is a problem on all of there units.

I am sure this are several firmware problems, no firmware upgrades

avaialble, and wireless security is outdated.

As a lan router/cable gateway it has been flawless, and the one box

unit fits my space. Bummer.
