with something more powerful assist reaching an access point or do you always have to improve the accept point side as well?

And on a similar subject, are replacement antenna on a wire and little stand (so you can get them well above ground level) better than antenna that connect straight into the back of the PCI card?

Thanks, Rob.

Usually getting the antenna up and away from the back of the computer will improve your signal to and from the access point. There will be signal loss in the cable and that's a minus. But the fact that the antenna is in a clearer path to the access point is a plus. So it just depends on how the signal strength is down there behind your computer. If you go with an antenna on a wire... get a directional antenna that you aim at the access point. That is a big plus.

hyperlink make a really nice one i have had good luck with all there antennas. though the amps they sell can be consided on the cheap side. here's a link for you. it is omni and not th cheapest considering it's

70 bucks and 8.5dbi more likely 7 after cable loss. if you were looking for a cheap way to do it you could just buy the base for $19.99 and put a 5.5dbi rubber duck on it.
