Cisco VPN Client Error (CVPND/0xE3400003 Function CreateFile failed

I have been fighting with this issue for two days.. I need help. After researching the errors below I've tried fixing permissions (full access to everyone on cisco folder in program files), uninstalled all firewall and anti-virus software, uninstalled the cisco vpn client and reinstalled, and even tried two different versions of the client and I still get the same thing (except in the newer version I get DRVIFACE:718 instead of 725).

I am running this on a Sony Vaio VGN-AX570G with MCE installed.

Please help a brother out. - log below:

Hey bro,

Looks like you are working on XP SP2 with Firewall enabled. Try disabling the XP firewall and ICS service. If you want the firewall to be enabled there are certain ports of TCP and UDP which you need to enable. Sorry, I do not remember those ports. However, while you are connecting/connected you can enable Cisco VPN Client's internal fw. This is a very basic FW and will not allow anything other then DNS replies and DHCP replies to come in.

Let us know if this works.

hey, thanks for the input.

I know I disabled windows firewall, althought I didn't disable the services themselves.. I'll give that a try as soon as my boss brings his laptop back in.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

tried it, no go.

I don't even have to try to connect for it to throw the error. Just start up the client, turn on the log and watch it fill up.

Hello,

Was that a fresh installation of VPN client? I think it is not. Try uninstalling the client. Download the new client from the website and make sure you download the latest one with InstallShield version. (Yes there will be two types of the same version, InstallShield and MSI). The 4.6+ clients have the capability to clean the system of any previous versions before they install themselves. I also hope it is not a Ghost imaged system.

Well, the first time I installed it, it was a fresh install.

Either way, it's a moot point now, my benevolent employer managed to get his entire boot partition corrupted and need a do over anyways.

Having reinstalled MCE on a fresh unmolested partition and likewise reinstalled the Cisco client, everything works smoothly.

Thanks for all your input on this.
