how do I wire surface mount DSL jack

I am about to install a DSL splitter at the NID and run a dedicated DSL line to a surface mount jack inside the house. I am running CAT5 from the splitter to the inside jack.

What colors / wiring do I wire in the surface mount jack?

Should I wire it like a regular single line phone jack?

Thanks, Tim C.

If you are only going to run a single phone line over the cable you would wire it like a normal phone jack. I normally use the Blue pair, as in (Blue - White/Blue).

The actual color pair you choose to use in the above application really does not matter as long as you keep with a twisted pair group like (Blue - White/Blue) or (Orange - White Orange) and so on.

Remove the ZAP if you want to email me directly.

Some modems are designed to use line 2. But, assuming yours is for connecting to line 1, use the red and green terminal in the jack.

For the cat5 cable, pick any pair. I think the blue/white pair is normally used for the first line.
