WiFi / DSL router in Germany

Our son is now in Bonn with his host family. They have the classical single computer directly connected to their DSL service - no WiFi - which it appears uses the XP "connection" to supply the DSL login (PPPoE) information.

Just wondering if we send over an extra WiFi router will it be able to be used behind whatever DSL modem is installed and login to their DSL provider ?

Anything different between the USA implementations and the German versions of PPPoE or whatever other protocol might be used for transport on the DSL service ?

The DSL router should handle all of the upstream protocols, so if the WiFi router is used as a bridge between the router and existing computer, all should be well. You need to watch out for the power supply; Germany has a connector that's not the same as in the U.S., and it's 220V/50Hz instead of 110V/60Hz. Channels should be okay; Germany uses 1-13 in 2.4GHz, and US is restricted to 1-11. Not sure about 5GHz.

Sure. If Windoze PPPoE works, then the PPPoE dialer in the router should also work.

Yeah, the usual regulatory stuff. Install the German firmware into the router before you send it to him, or have him do it himself.
