Hi all, I have a netgear wifi router. Is there any way i can have this operating on a network with an active wifi router and disactivate the routing function? ie. just using it as a wifi access point?

Yes, easily...
Yes, just don't plug anything into the WAN port. The routing is only between the LAN and WAN ports.
(oh, and disable the DHCP server, if present)
