dialogic d41/d editing

Is there any way to record sound files on a pc, edit them, convert them to dialogic 8khz and have them sound decent?

I've tried various editing programs and all of the conversions sound distorted and muffled. I've even tried recording at 8khz and the result is pretty much the same.

Thanks in advance Dave

I tried cooledit96, recorded 8k / 16bit / mono and it sounded just terrible. What could I be doing wrong???

Thanks! Dave

Are you sure that you are playing the file as 8bit PCM when you use the dialogic board? By default it uses ADPCM 4 bit in many application. Try recording to ADPCM format and also check that you are recording to the correct Alaw or MuLaw format (usually MuLaw would be used for an analogue network but it can be overridden in the dialogic configuration to Alaw which would cause distortion)...

You could use Asterisk

formatting link
and record your files directly on the PBX.
