This is a commonly held misconception about the sunset clause. There is no requirement that analog support be dropped on the appointed date. The following is quoted from Homeywell, one of the largest makers of security systems. Their data came directly from the FCC directive.

"Background - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has established February 18, 2008, as the date after which cellular carriers may choose to discontinue support of analog wireless networks known as AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone Services). Referred to as the "Sunset Clause," it ensures that carriers provide existing services up until that date."

"What It Means - Cellular carriers may choose to maintain support of the AMPS service beyond February 18, 2008. It does not mean that cellular carriers must drop support after this date. Due to the use of the AMPS network in the security industry coupled with other industries that also utilize this network, it is possible that the services will continue beyond the Sunset Clause date. This decision is solely at the discretion of the cellular carrier. AlarmNet, Honeywell, and our customers are potential casualties of the FCC's Sunset Clause and the decisions carriers make regarding whether or not to discontinue AMPS service."

Some manufacturers of wireless alarm communication systems have been deliberately misconstruing the intent and effect of the sunset clause to create an immediate demand for their newer sets. Many dealers have mistakenly (some deliberately) passed on misleading information to consumers. The reality is that with a huge base of existing analog clients generating hundreds of millions of dollars cellular service providers are not going to suddenly drop analog service next February. Those who haven't done so already will stop offering new analog service and will cease offering new analog hardware. Existing customers will have months or in some cases years to replace their hardware.

AT&T is already severely restricting AMPS service in many areas and has stated they WILL drop the service at or around the specified date, only a fool would still sell AMPS units now

Apparently you appear to be an expert at misconceptions. There is no requirement that it be CONTINUED after Feb 18 2008. That is the key phrase. If you want to trust your valuables to an analog reporting device that may not work after that date have at it, but please don't recommend that course of action to unsuspecting diyers just to make a fast buck.

Pardon me, moron, but you just restated what I've been saying all along. The misconception which numerous alarm salesmen have been spreading is that once the "sunset" date arrives all analog units will become unusable.

It's not a matter of trusting to analog vs digital. The problem is people like you misleading customers into thinking they have to buy a replacement *now* (when anyone who knows anything at all knows that is simply not so).

Let me clarify things to you, friend. I don't try to sell analog units. Any that are in our database can no longer be ordered through us. I also do not try to trick unsuspecting analog users into thinking they have to buy a replacement unit right away. I've been telling people who have functioning analog units to first verify with their service provider when they plan to drop analog support.

So please don't mislead unsuspecting alarm users into thinking you're honest.

again, you lie mr bASS. My customers want 'ME' to handle their conversion to digital. That is what I am going to do on MY schedule, not one you make up. What would you have them do, wait till 2-18-08 and then scramble to get it done? all the while losing their service till some numbnut drop shipper sends them a unit that doesnt work then have to fight to get the warranty on a diy return from NUMBNUT DROP SHIPPER that takes another month or more if they get it at all then have to come on asa to see if they can find SAID NUMBNUT DROP SHIPPER to ask where their warranty return is?
