ADT Essential Wireless Package

I guess we must all be "idiots" then (since we don't advertise in the Yellow Pages)... Some days I'd wish my sales guys would take a long vacation so we could "catch up" at last.

out on the website or in the contract on-line.

When it is "free", it is easy to write in a money back guarantee. :o]

There's nothing wrong with their monitoring procedures. I think you could do better shopping for a company that employs the same level of expertise for a lot less dollars. SIA certification is something you should look for (for instance).

Ask Bass. He's the expert at making up statistics.

Once you get a good laugh, then you can contact your responding PD. Ask for the alarm division,if they have one. The alarm division will have/should have those statistics by company.

There's everything wrong with their monitoring services. Try being one of their third party dealers for awhile and you'll experience it firsthand. No test signals, no cancel codes, no dealer reports ! Plus they dispatch after calling one number rather than going through the calling list properly. Try feeding that opinion to a client as they are desperately calling ADT to cancel an alarm, while the station is trying to get hold of them while the line is busy with the client on it, and the police arrive. Happens all the time. A false alarm ticket waiting to happen !

Most good stations will sit down with a dealer and work out the required calling plan that the dealer wants, to allow for local conditions. In my opinion, simply dispatching quickly to get to the next call coming in is not acceptable. Simply answering the alarm call is the bare minimum required for good service (hell, if a station can't do that, they are negligent). And this business of redundancy doesn't make them stand out from any crowd; that is commonplace within the ranks of larger alarm monitoring stations.

Perhaps if I had more accounts, and more clout, th> Mike wrote:

That's Funny!!!!!!!!

Look everyone, Here's my take on this ridiculously long thread.

If I'd have known that " J " was J. Sloud I would not have lifted a finger to respond to his well known notions, born of ingorance. I have a feeling that a lot of others here made the same mistake. If it is, in fact, the same person, everyone would/should have realized that we've been down this trail before with him. He's an ADT corporate employee, dealing with large projects, who realizes what ADT has done to it's reputation by getting into the residential arena, and ruining the image of *his* job. When he sees someone here say something about how bad ADT is, he takes it personally and thinks that it applies to what he does. (Which, by the way, I think everyone has stated, or would agree, that ADT does a fabulous job in the commercial arena and should have stayed there). You'd think that by now he'd realilze that he's pissing into the wind by supporting ADT's residental divisions and reputation, in a group of independent small alarm dealers. The fact that after all these years, he's again begun his troll like endeavors here, (which, by the way, anyone who's been here long enough should remember that this is how he entered the Newsgroup) which he knows he will never win, intrigues me. Perhaps he's upset by the eagerly awaited demise of his good friend Bass.

It's quite obvious that he has no knowlege whatsoever about the residential trade or about the practices of ADT in this market. He's typifies the consummate "engineer" or "computer specialist" that we all run into, that thinks because he knows one thing, he knows all about what you do and it must be pretty easy to do something that seems related .... and so has all the answers to tell you why you are wrong and why you should do something his way, instead of the way that you know is right, through experience.

Probably best to treat him the same as Mc Weirdo and Mc Paul. At least until he comes back down from his present perch. As otherwise, he seems to be a pretty decent guy. This thread is MUCH too long and much ado about what we, who are in direct contact with ADT in the trenches, all know is true and he doesn't. He'll never be there and therefore never be able to admit that the company he works for is a slut in the residential market, as we all know it is.

Impasse.

Yup ! Methinks you hit that nail on the head

Do you know where ADT Europe is run from?

Within Tyco Fire and Security, ADT Europe is a different company than ADT North America. None of the posters here compete with anyone other than ADT North America, which is headquartered in Boca like I said.

I agree. I got started in this thread because someone posted some lies about the company I work for in response to a potential customer's request for information. It rolled downhill from there. I'm happy to keep going on forever with it, as long as people want to toss insults and post half-truths.

As you know Jim, I do occasionally post something useful here. Normally, my posts are technical answers to the occasional integrated systems applications questions posted here. I do lurk a fair amount, and I will respond when I see my company unfairly trashed. I support the truthful criticism and will add my own on occasion. ADT is a huge corporate monster, but the majority of the employees care about our customers and their careers. Many have worked for or owned small alarmcos and bring that experience with them. I started out pulling wire for a mom and pop alarmco/ satellite company when I was in college.

One last thing, I'm not a technician or an engineer, although I've done both jobs. I'm responsible for a fairly large chunk of revenue, probably 10 times what the average newsgroup reg does in yearly sales. Most of this money comes from taxpayers. We do everything we can to do the best job possible on these critical projects. I've designed the systems that protect the airports you fly out of. I've worked on complex, code level system integration to make port security better. I've contracted with about every branch of the US federal government to secure their most sensitive facilities. We helped write the standards used to certify T/S SCI facilities. We've done a damn good job on these projects, and I feel my work has done a small part to help keep North America a little bit safer.

  1. Who is not putting in test signals and cancel codes?
  2. dispatching after the first call is what most central stations do unless otherwise noted
  3. It is not ADT's fault the customer has somehow been told to call the central station instead of waiting for a call.

Okay how long should they wait? 5-10 minutes? The central station SHOULD dispatch as soon as possible unless otherwise noted

Brinks has better hookers?

Wrong again. time to give it up J. How about BIG NIGE? and Spyro?

Sorry but that is not so ! Test signals and cancel codes are not allowed to my knowledge. They prefer a dialer delay before transmission, so assume every alarm is real.. And dispatching after the first call is NOT what is acceptable (at least around here) with 95% of calls being false trips. And which customer EVER remembers to stay off the phone when panic mode sets in after an alarm trip, no matter how well you train them (hell, most customers can't even remember the brand name of their equipment after a while, let alone what to do in an emergency)

The way it works with our police department, is the station calls after checking all the main clients numbers. They then prime the police, who do not dispatch until the station has gone through the balance of the numbers (our police department is somewhat different in that they will accept a cancel of their dispatch right up until the time they arrive on premises so this works, and seems to reduce false dispatches somewhat).

Now I have about 15 to 20 residential customers DAILY who trip their alarms, with only five real break ins in 12 years in the business. That's an infintesimally tiny percentage of real alarms versus the potential to have hundreds or even thousands of false alarms yearly if done otherwise. Goodness knows how many ADT alarms there are since I don't get any reports. Plus customers report that they can't get through when they do call in.

The ONLY thing I can see they do well is the billing (I wonder why). You can defend them till the cows come home, but I have lived with them thanks !!

SIA certification is an industry certification? What's the difference in the ability to do the job between hard wired and wireless systems? For you house would you install a wireless or hard wired or hybrid system? Do wireless system devices need battery replacements?

I'm impressed. If someone is getting a new home system should it be wired or wireless (doors) ?

I believe the adt "faMILY plan" covers all that for $39.99
