How buggy and prone to crashing is this software (assuming no hardware issues)? I ask only because I have noticed little inconsistancies since I have been using it and since I don't have a tonne of experience with the software itself, was looking to the community to fill me in.

What version of software?
If configured per the guidelines I have found it OK certainly as far as crashing is concerned.
I am not sure what version of symposium you are using but we have experienced a couple of instances where the software was unstable but no crashes. In each case Nortel had a patch or two which corrected our issues. So, what ever version you have, make sure you have your patches up to date.
