can this be done easily, want to have some conferencing facilities that Nortel does not do well

Easy but I'd recommend the "Free PBX" GUI tool to manage your * (used to be called Asterisk Management Portal) or AMP
Connect the asterisk and BCM together with SIP VoIP trunks.
