We will be building a new home in the spring and acting as the general contractor.
I'm looking for ideas for home automation. X-10 seems to be the most common type of technology used. I've seen a few negatives concerning their controllers. What other gotcha's are out there for x-10?

If you started from scratch what would you use?My driveway will be 1000' long with no power at the road. Are there any affordable solar powered technologies to alert when someone enters the driveway?
