I have just purchased a d-link DI-624+ wireless router and I want to create a firewall rule that will prevent my system from acknowledging ping requests from my machine. Could someone please advise on how I can do this. Thanks in advance

There is no reason to do that.

If you really want to do something that has no effect in improving security but instead mainly complicates network troubleshooting you might like to take a closer look at the documentation of the device you use.
