No firewall, no router, but all ports are "stealth"?

I have Windows XP SP2 installed, no router, just a simple DSL modem. I have turned Windows FW off; however, ShieldsUp show all of my ports as "stealth". How can that be? I have no other firewall installed and have not yet installed my antivirus program. I'm quite confused.

What is your IP address? If it's 192.168.x.y then your DSL modem is providing NAT and that's why you can't be reached directly.

Thanks for your suggestion, but my DSL modem does not provide NAT. It turns out that my Cisco VPN client's firewall is turned on all the time, even though the client itself is not in use! Once I unchecked the box "statefull fire wall (always on)", everything was OK. Thanks -- John
