I'm getting a tftp timeout when uploading a .bin for an update to the operating system. The firewall is turned off and xinetd is set to launch tftp as user nobody. ownership of the tftp directory is set for nobody.
Any ideas?

It seems tftp must be ran as root via xinetd. Beyond that, I can transfer data from switch to tftp server but not tftp server to switch.

Test your server with a TFTP client on a PC. Check the logs on the server. Is the source file readable by the TFTP server?
Make sure the file exists and has permission to be written on.
Most tftpds refuse to create files, and tftp has no other error message than timeout....
