Hi The best solution (IMHO) on most tftp servers is to create an empty file using the same name as you try to upload (don't forget set permissons to write to this file).

Some TFTP server softwares have an option to allow or not allow files to overwrite other files. File and directory permissions on the server hosting the TFTP program are another consideration. Allow "Everyone" to read, write, and modify files if needed. Examine the TFTP server program by looking into log messages that it may produce.

Also look into the syntax of your copy command. Consider being more specific in the command. EXAMPLE: copy flash:filename tftp://192.168.0.1/images/filename

Thanks for your help. I looked in at the ios file and it has "RW" access. Is there such a access level as a "Copy"? As I understand it read and write includes the right to copy the file. The problem is on the router with the file not the "TFTP" server. I can copy run star to the TFTP servers with no problems. Problem is only when I try to back up the IOS from flash.

check your spelling - in flash the file name is c2500-c-l ( that is L ) and when you tftp you are using the number 1.
