cisco 2621 problem

Hello all,

Somebody has given me a broken 2621 to look at. The router boots ok, but it does not show any of the interfaces. It has

2 fa's and 1 serial (WIC1T).

I put a new IOS on it, still no interfaces are showing.

Any suggestions?

Thx in advance

If there are any WIC cards are network modules in the router, remove them then reboot and try the above show commands again.

I believe all of the interfaces are outboard of the host PCI bridge on a 2621 - so it could be the PCI bridge or the PCI bus that is defective

see Cisco doc:

If the PCI bus or the bridge is indeed at fault, confirmation and/or more clues could be obtained by using the "show pci hardware" and "show c2600" commands.

Here is the output from this command from a functioning 2600 -

router# show pci hardware

XILINX Host-PCI Bridge Registers: Vendor / Device ID: 0x401310EE Status / Command: 0x040001C6 PCI Slave Base Reg 0: 0x00000000 PCI Slave Base Reg 1: 0x04000000

correctly programmed. It is possible that some error on the PCI bus caused IOS to not even initialize the base registers or the PCI subsystem at all. The vendor/device id seems correct, however. What seems surprising is that IOS was not more verbose about the errors it seemingly ran into at init time. I would expected have some error messages about any PCI issues.

Another thing in the init-time error messages you posted earlier is the message about using a random default MAC address. That error usually happens if the read-only device that has the base MAC address of the device is not being read correctly. It will be a EEPROM or a PLD or something like that. Perhaps that error is also somehow causing an init of the PCI subsystem to be skipped completely.

The "show c2600" indicates that there were no error interrupts and so that seems ok.

PLD info not being available is another indication of the problem

show c2600 from one of my lab routers shows the following:

PLD Status: Version string burned in chip: "B829052698" New version after next program operation: "B829052698" PLD family type: "2096" PLD chip ID: 0x0013 Device is programmable

Since the router is hosed at this point, it probably will not hurt to try to execute the

upgrade pld command

see

NOTE: The WIC must be removed priro to executing this procedure

Hi, tried the upgrade pld command, got response:

That cookie looks good.
