Newbie: 2621xm setup problems

Hi folks, I'm new to Cisco routers, so here is my problem and hopefully one of you guys will be able to help. I'll try to give as much info as possible:

I've been given a 2621XM router, just the router, none of the original cables, manuals, or software. So I've visited cisco.com to try and find what cables I need, I think I've found the right ones. I've got the power cable (obviously!), loads of CAT5(e) cable, so no problems there, and a RJ45-to-serial (9-pin) adaptor. I also have an RJ45-to-parallel (25-pin) adaptor, but I have been using the 9-pin one.

I've set up the router cables in the way Cisco have specified here:

According to this guide:

when I power up the router, messages should begin to appear in Hyperterminal.

And that's where my problem comes in to play. I have configured Hyperterminal in exactly the way Cisco says: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity, but still nothing appears in the window when I power up the router. I've also tried switching between COM1 and COM2 ports on my PC, but to no avail.

Could anyone tell me what I am missing, whether I just have the cables set up wrong, or whether I need a particular piece of software etc., or whether I need to buy the original Cisco cables etc. If you need more info just ask!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The rj45-rj45 console cable required is a ROLLED cable. A straight-thru CAT5 cable will not work.
