AFAIK IOS does not verify whether a value input is a valid setting.

MERV1(config)#config-reg ? Config register number

MERV1(config)#config-reg 0x5d22 MERV1(config)#exit

The normal setting should be 0x102 or 0x2102

Yeah I knew that much, was just wondering if that was even *valid*

I've only seen a few config registers, mostly for debugging or resetting a password or something

it is not valid.

Reset to 0x102 or 0x2102 to prevent any problems.

All config settings are valid; it's just a matter of what they do. So convert 0x5D22 to binary, 0101 1101 0010 0010. bit 14 = IP broadcast do not have network numbers bit 12-11 = Console speed is 9600 bit 10 = IP broadcasts with ones bit 5 = N/A bit 3-0 = boot file is "boot system"
