Cisco configuration file

I was wondering if anyone can provide me with configuration for an MLPPP setup or a CEF setup of 8 t1 lines 4 going to one site and 4 going to another and sharing bandwidth. Also, is it best to use static routes or to use dynamic routing?



The docs are pretty clear? 8 T1s, so you have what, a 7200 or so?

Really depends on what your design is? Anything with 3 or fewer routers probably would be much easier static. Once you hit 4 routers, you get a little tired of putting routes in all over.

We have 2 2800 routers (one at the corporate office) and one 2600 router.

I wouldn't want to push 8 T1s through a single 2800. You'll be swamping the thing.

4 in one would be do-able though, so if you are thinking 4 in one and 4 in the other?

Much good advice already. The CPU varies from model to model. 261x was quite a bit slower than 262x (IIRC). 2600XL was I think better than 2600.

MLPPP is very CPU intensive but on the other hand CPUs get better and better. I would be more concerned with

4 x T1 in a 2600, /but/ it depends greatly on the model.

You should test it or get some numbers from someone who has already done it with the same router models (same CPU type and speed).

A 2800 should be able to more than handle 8 T1s in a MLPPP group with ease. Of course the physical limitations won't leave you with much room for growth so you may want to consider that right now. The 2800 series can Fast/CEF switch traffic ranging from 46.08Mbps with the 2801 to 112.64Mbps with the 2851. The 2600s on the other hand are worthless with more than a couple a couple T1s. I just replaced a 2611XM that had 2 CMTSs behind it with a 2821 because the 2611XM was swamped. That's the only time I've ever actually witnessed a router's CPU load at 100%. I've seen many routers report 99% at various times but never

100%. Anyhow, consider your future physical growth options now but don't worry about the CPU on the 2800s; they can take it. J
