Cisco 800 telnet control

Sorry if this is a rube question.

According to the Cisco 800 Router reference manual, I can log into the router either with the console cable, or via telnet.

However, what IP/port do I use to connect via telnet? I've tried a number of logical seeming combinations but always get a connection timeout or refusal.

Any tips?

Thanks.

Well telnet is port 23 and the IP address would be the IP address of the router. However, you must instruct the router to allow telnet connections and on what interface they are allowed on.

Thanks for the reply. Apparently I've been locked out of the router by the ISP. Any idea how to get around that?

You should be able to recover the config if the ISP hasn't configured 'no service password-recovery'.
